During his 25 years career at the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Seattle, Ed Long conducted and managed surveys of sediment quality in many marine bays and estuaries around the USA, developed environmental assessement methods that are now used world wide and published over 80 papers in either scientific journals, technical reports or book chapters. As a private consultant (ERL-Environment, Salem, OR, USA) after his retirement, he recently assisted government agencies and academic research groups in the development of sediment assessement methods in Canada, Australia, the Netherlands, South Korea, Great Britain and Brazil.
