SENSE research clusters – a new opportunity for inspiration and learning!

Posted by: Ad van Dommelen on July 14, 2009 09:33:29 AM +02:00
Early 2009, the SENSE Research School started 14 research clusters. They have been installed to sharpen the focus of the four overarching research themes of SENSE by creating smaller research teams that bring together researchers and PhD students from different SENSE partner institutions.

Research clusters aim to establish a platform/network for SENSE PhD-students and SENSE researchers that work on related topics or themes. Such a platform/network enables information exchange and common activities, such as organizing:
  • PhD meetings/presentations;
  • workshops;
  • expert meetings;
  • Summer Schools / international PhD courses;
  • discussion meetings;
  • literature study meetings;
  • review of draft articles, poster presentations; etc.

The cluster overview is available at: http://www.sense.nl/researchclusters.

Research clusters are a flexible bottom-up system. On request of a group of researchers, cluster 15 on nano-particles (NanoSense) will start soon.

The SENSE research clusters offer new opportunities to PhD students. Please make use of them!

A research cluster offers an easy way to reach PhD students and researchers that work on related topics. Moreover, you can find same-minded people to organize activities. More fun, more learning, more inspiration and less personal efforts!

Most initiatives in a research cluster must come from PhD students. In every cluster two coordinators, based in different SENSE institutes, are prepared to assist you. If you have an idea or suggestion, please contact them. SENSE can provide financial support for e.g. venues, travel costs and foreign guest speakers. Do not hesitate to contact a cluster coordinator when you have a concrete idea.

SENSE management appointed all PhD students to one of the 14 clusters. You can find our allotment at http://ww.sense.nl/researchclusters. If you are not satisfied with your cluster allotment, please email your preferred option to frans.van.der.woerd@falw.vu.nl

We hope that you will join research cluster activities soon.
