Roots — an interdisciplinary link

Wageningen 2008WICC, Wageningen, The Netherlands
10-12 September 2008
A WIMEK-NUPUS-PE&RC WORKSHOP

Rationale

Roots are identified as an upcoming topic in hydrology, in climate change and in resource use efficiency studies. This is however not yet reflected in the research agenda. Work is going on, but often the activities are modest and very scattered. To be better able to appreciate what has been established, what is going on and what still needs to be done, SEG (Soil physics, Ecohydrology and Groundwater management ), in collaboration with different chair groups from Wageningen university (SOQ, ESS and HWM), and funded by the research school WIMEK, is organizing a 3-day workshop on this topic. Main objectives of the meeting are:

  • To provide interdisciplinary links to plant scientists and hydrologists,
  • to inform interesting parties of what is going on,
  • to identify and detail the problems associated with root system modelling,
  • to make an inventory of current understanding of root uptake strategies (water and nutrients),
  • to inform one another on ongoing research projects, and
  • to discuss future research needs and prospects for collaboration.

7th IHDP Open Meeting:New Venue and Dates
26-30 April, 2009; World Conference Center, Bonn, Germany

2nd call for the 7th IHDP Open Meeting

IHDP is happy to announce a second call for the 7th Open Meeting. This call will be open from 15 August to 31 October and will give scholars another opportunity to submit papers or posters to be presented during the Open Meeting. It targets those who had not submitted an abstract during the first call but who became interested in participating due to the new dates and venue. It also provides those who have already made a submission with the opportunity to hand in one more paper or poster. All accepted papers from the first call will remain valid and the overall scientific framework of the conference will remain unchanged as well. The second call, therefore, will be open to contributions to specific thematic clusters, in order to ensure a coherent overall scientific agenda that is the product of contributions from both calls. Don't miss the opportunity to present at the 7th Open Meeting!
