Social Theory and the Environment. Introduction into Ecological Modernisation Theory

Course contents
This intensive course offers interested PhD-students an introduction to sociological thinking with regared to the environment. Particular attention will be given to the theory of Ecological Modernisation (EMT).

Central Objectives of the Course are:
- to get to know the historical roots and current position of ecological modernisation theory as a social scientific theory in the field of environmental sciences,
- to become familiar with the application and elaboration of ecological modernisation theory with respect to different themes (environmental movement, industry, politics) and also with respect to different geographical regions (Europe, Southeast Asia, Africa),
- to get to know the debates and critiques on ecological modernisation theory.
