NOVA Modelling Workshop

Date: 24 October 2016 - 26 October 2016
Location: Wageningen University Campus

Nova is a new Java-based modelling platform that naturally supports the creation of models in the system dynamics, spatial and agent-based modelling paradigms in a single desktop application. The focus of the workshop will be to introduce the participants to using the NOVA platform to construct both systems and agent models that explore aspects of population growth, resource ecology, demographic processes, and disease ecology. Applications will cover elementary aspects of harvesting theory (discrete age-structured deterministic models), population viability analysis (discrete age-structured stochastic models), disease ecology (binomial transmission chains) and movement ecology (correlated and biased random walks). Participants will be encouraged to embark upon a modelling project that they will have an opportunity to complete and submit online sometime after the end of the course.
