Autumn school 2015: Science in a regional context

Date: 14 October 2015 - 16 October 2015
Location: Leeuwarden

“When theory meets practice” is an important point of departure in the Autumn School. The clash between the worlds of science and reality sparks new discussions about the usefulness of economic space for a sustainable Frisian society. Fryslân does not forego the dynamics in a globalizing economy presenting new questions that require new answers. This will be the added value of the Autumn School.

Wednesday 14 October: Physical Space

On the first day of the Autumn School, keynote speakers will discuss the meaning and importance of valorization within the research field of physical space. Valorization is essential to bridge the gap between scientific research and society. Thereafter we will focus on the valorization of ongoing research projects of Frisian PhD candidates. The goal is to align the research approaches with current challenges, to guide us towards a sustainable and livable physical space.

Thursday 15 October: Cultural Space

The second day of the Autumn School is devoted to the structure and the development of symbolic knowledge, defining cultural space in a regional context. The current leading vision from the historical, language, cultural geographical and political perspective will be discussed by various keynote speakers. In addition, new insights will be provided by Frisian PhD candidates presenting their ongoing research projects. Together, we will valorise these new ideas and practical approaches, aligning the research endeavours with current societal challenges.

Friday 16 October: Economic Space

The third day of our Autumn School will unfold important elements of the economic space in our society. Our keynote speakers will offer state-of-the-art field overviews of relevant questions, theoretical foundations and research methods.
