Familiarity with the concept “ecosystem service” is considered beneficial.

Ecosystem Services (ES) are a concept, which is well established in science and increasingly applied in planning and policy making. Different types of ES require different mapping procedures, to generate information about demand for, use of or supply of ecosystem services. This course will briefly introduce the ES concept and present mapping methods. Two methods are presented in more detail and applied in the field by the participants of the course. After presenting the results of the mapping exercise, advantages and limitations of the mapping methods will be discussed.
