NCAS Atmospheric Measurement Summer School

Date: 14 May 2018 - 25 May 2018
Location: Arran Outdoor Centre, Scotland, UK

This practical course is designed for PhD and early career scientists who want to gain confidence, experience and in-depth knowledge about atmospheric science fieldwork.

You will spend twelve days taking part in hands-on learning activities and lectures, and leading scientists from across the UK will provide mentorship and teach you about different techniques and equipment.

Our comprehensive programme will challenge you to:

  • use synoptic charts and other data to give daily weather forecasts
  • profile the atmosphere using radiosondes and surface measurements on a mountain
  • log data and work with instruments in remote locations
  • investigate atmospheric trace gases and aerosols

Our researchers have years of experience in field campaigns across the globe, from Borneo to Cape Verde, using both ground-based and airborne instruments. We have been training students and researchers in field campaign measurements for over twelve years.
