Individual Training and Support Programme

Each PhD student participating in SENSE is required to have an Individual Training and Supervision Plan (ITSP), drawn up by the PhD student in consultation with his or her supervisors (the promotor(s) and/or co-promotor(s), and day-to-day supervisor).

The plan sets out a schedule for the educational part of the period for which the PhD student is appointed or enrolled.

The plan is in effect an agreement on education and supervision reached by the PhD student and the research school SENSE, stipulating the tasks of the PhD student and the accompanying supervision. It invests both parties with rights and obligations.

The procedure for drawing up and submitting an Individual Training and Supervision Plan (ITSP) is as follows:
1. At the start of the project the PhD student will make their own ITSP plan at their personal webspace in the Research Guide. This plan should follow the basic guidelines described at http://www.sense.nl/docs/286
2. The submitted ITSP will then be checked by the SENSE administrators and after acceptance (possibly on the basis of necessary amendment) by the SENSE Director of Education, the PhD student and supervisor(s) will be informed by e-mail message.
3. After receiving this note of acceptance from the SENSE Director of Education, the submitted online form must be printed and signed by the PhD student as well as by his or her supervisors (day-to-day supervisor and promotor or co-promotor).

Submission

Within six months after the start of the PhD research, this approved and signed paper form of the ITSP must then be sent for administrative registration by regular mail to:

SENSE Education Desk t.a.v. E. Nab
WIMEK
Ritsema Bosweg 32a
6703 AZ Wageningen

The subsequent monitoring of the progress in your agreed and approved ITSP will then take place in the following years by use of the online version of your ITSP, which will only be visible to you, your supervisor(s) and the SENSE administrators. The SENSE Certificate will be granted to the PhD student if the online ITSP shows that all education and training requirements have been met.

Requirements

Time schedule note:

The maximum time that may be allocated to following courses depends on your own university/faculty rules, but should usually not exceed 12.5 - 15% of the appointment (= 20 - 25 credits) and the maximum time that may be spent on teaching duties is usually 12.5 - 10% of the appointment. The latter is only obligatory for AIO's and OIO's.
