Invitation to contribute to SENSE Symposium (10 October 2008)



Dear SENSE PhD students,

 

On Friday 10 October 2008, SENSE will organise a PhD symposium (location: WICC, Wageningen) in close cooperation with ex-EPCEM students (EPCEM = European Postgraduate Course on Environmental Management). The ex-EPCEM students have selected the following five topics:

 

1. Climate change & Climate variability

This can include: climate policy, post-Kyoto regime (Bali Action Plan, Adaptation Fund), Kyoto mechanisms, climate neutrality (compensation), climate change mitigation (JI and CDM), and also extreme events (tsunamis, droughts, floods, hurricanes), technology transfer, climate change adaptation tools and strategies (in developing countries), climate change and security/poverty/health and/or MDGs)

 

2. Energy

Energy policy, energy efficiency, sustainable energy, renewables, energy crisis
natural resources management (this can include: water-management e.g. IWRM, Water Framework Directive)

 

3. Nature conservation and biodiversity

Related topics, marine protection, forest conservation etc)

 

4. Sustainable production and consumption

This can include: waste-management, tourism, eco-labelling, cleaner production, trends in consumption and production patterns, impacts on developing countries of changes in consumption patterns in developed countries; socio and economic development goals, policy measures to change consumption and production patterns, etc.

 

5. Environmental transformation

In developing and transitional economies

 

We are now looking for PhD students (and staff members) who are willing to co-organise one of these parallel sessions and/or to present the results of their (PhD) research. SENSE PhD students may regard the co-organisation of this SENSE symposium as PhD training activity for their ITSP.

 

Questions / Invitation to contribute:

  • Are you willing to co-organise one of the parallel sessions of the SENSE symposium on Friday 10 October 2008? If so, which session?
  • Are you willing to present the outline or results of your PhD research on this symposium? If so, in which session? Please send me (i) the provisional title of your presentation; (ii) a short summary (if possible).
