Dissertation title:

Abstract:

Many ecosystem services depend on land use characteristics and therefore, respond to land use change. However, there are a wide range of further variables that shape demand and supply for ecosystem services. Therefore, I developed a model for one ecosystem service that incorporated a wider range of environmental variables. Subsequently, I explored the effect of past and projected land use change on a range of ecosystem services within in the European Union. I located hotspots of particular land change trajectories in four scenarios for the years 2000 through 2040 and quantified how these might affect ecosystem service supply. In addition, I explored various concepts of landscape multifunctionality and discussed how these concepts can affect perception of ecosystem service provision.
