Abstract:
The main objective of this research was to conduct a systematic evaluation of the factors that influence the establishment, functioning and outcomes of two CBM initiatives; Maasai Mara Citizen Observatory in Kenya and Grip op Water Altena in the Netherlands. This research was conducted using a qualitative empirical research methodology. The framework of this study is called the CPI framework and builds on both theoretical and empirical evidence in the fields of CBM and affiliated fields of research. The empirical evaluation of the establishment dynamics and results of the case studies was conducted using a two phase design approach; one before and one after establishment of the two CBMs. The empirical research in phase one depicts the baseline situation of the two case studies, while the findings of phase two portraits a detailed picture of the establishment process and results of the two CBMs.
