PhD Hydrological modeling of climate change, Wageningen

Posted by: SENSE Administrator on June 24, 2004 11:53:44 AM +02:00
The Hydrology and Quantitative Water Management Group of the department of Environmental Sciences of Wageningen University has a PhD position available.

The research concerns Hydrological modeling of climate change/variability impacts on water availability in large river basins. The aim is to improve our capacity to predict impacts of climate change/ variability on water availability.

Applications have to be send in before 4 July 2004.

Job description

For selected river basins in different climatic regions a coupled root zone, groundwater and surface water distributed model will be developed and calibrated/validated . This model will be used to determine the energy and water budgets over an extended period of observations . The water and energy budgets will be compared to independently derived budgets from available remote sensing data , using sequential ensemble data assimilation techniques.
The model will be used to assess the initial moisture status in the basin to improve short to medium range predictions of water availability using downscaled climatic forcings.

Profile

MSc degree in hydrology, specialization in catchments hydrology; experience with hydrological modelling of catchments, remote sensing and data assimilation techniques; being able to work independently and in a team; excellent oral and writing skills, including reporting in English; willingness to spend short or longer periods abroad.

Remuneration

This is a 4 years job as research assistant, AIO, with a salary increasing from Euro 1702 per month in the first to Euro 2394 per month in the fourth year.
