As we all know climate changes and therefore we need to adapt to this. A lot of research is being conducted on this issue, but there is little knowledge on the spatial implications of climate change in different spatial contexts. We know that there is space required to supply us with renewable energy sources and also to give space to adaptation measures. The question is however, where and how to place these two new claims in space.

I’d therefore like to ask you for a little help in a research I am currently conducting. This survey will cost you around 15 minutes of your time. I hope you will help me to make it a success.

Deltacommissaris Wim Kuijken is de nieuwe juryvoorzitter van de Delta Water Award. De prijs is bedoeld voor jonge wetenschappers (ingenieurs en studenten) die een visie geven op hoe de Zuidwestelijke Delta er in 2053, honderd jaar na de watersnoodramp, uit zou kunnen zien. De Zuidwestelijke Delta beslaat de provincie Zeeland, de Zuid-Hollandse eilanden en West-Brabant.

Midden Februari 2011 lanceert de Europese Commissie de oproep tot het indienen van voorstellen voor LIFE+ 2011 met, in de Europese Unie, een budget van 265.36 miljoen Euro voor “Milieu” projecten. Deze projecten worden verdeeld over drie componenten: Natuur en Biodiversiteit, Milieubeleid en Bestuur en Informatie en Communicatie.

De Europese Commissie nodigt u graag uit om deel te nemen aan de LIFE+ Informatie Sessie die kort na de publicatie van de aanbesteding op Maandag 7 maart 2011 zal plaatsvinden in Agentschap NL, Ministerie van Economische Zaken, Landbouw en Innovatie. Het doel van deze Informatie Sessie is kandidaat aanvragers te informeren over het LIFE+ Programma, en meer specifiek over de aanbestedingen voor 2011.

Het College van bestuur van de Open Universiteit heeft SENSE-onderzoeker dr. Ad Ragas benoemd tot hoogleraar Milieu-natuurwetenschappen aan de faculteit Natuurwetenschappen. Hij gaat als voortrekker optreden bij het verder ontwerpen, innoveren en ontwikkelen van het afstandsonderwijs in de milieu-natuurwetenschappen.

SENSE Researcher Lars Hein (Environmental Systems Analysis group, Wageningen University) has written a book on 'Economics and Ecosystems'. The book is meant for both economists that are interested in ecology and ecologists that are interested in economy. In the book Lars Hein shows that sustainable management of ecosystems is also profitable.
