New PhD discussion group Modelling and Statistics Network

The discussion group aims at generating discussion on statistical methods and modeling concepts. By stimulating these discussions we intend to encourage PhD-students to share ideas, explore new methods or to discuss and seek help to specific problems that they face in their research.

Dates: June 13 – 22 Location: Roskilde University, Department of Environmental, Social and Spatial Change, Bldg. 02 Participation: Maximum 16 students Course Fee: The course is offered free for all students enrolled in Ph.D. programmes in Danish universities and GESS partner graduate schools (EnSTe, SENSE). Otherwise a tuition fee of 3000 Dkr is required (does not include meals or accommodation). Deadline for Enrollment: 12 May 2007

SENSE organises two Summer Schools in 2007

SENSE will organise two International Summer Schools in 2007. One before and one after The Amsterdam Conference 2007.
Only a selection of PhD students will be able to enroll in these Summer Courses, based on their motivation and CV.

The Amsterdam Conference 2007 is an international conference on "Earth System Governance: Theories and Strategies for Sustainability".

GIS Techniques in Environmental Sciences

Purpose and Goals In autumn 2006, an introductory course on GIS techniques relevant for environmental researchers will be offered to Ph.D. students by the Graduate School of Environmental Stress Studies.
The course will seek to give participants an introduction to the Global Information System and to provide an overview of relevant issues for environmental researchers. In the course we will be using the program package ARC GIS provided by ESRI. Emphasis will be on models used to analyse and/or describe dynamic environments.

European Master of Arts Programme on Society, Science and Technology ESST

Maastricht University, The Netherlands ESST is a one-year International Master Programme taught in collaboration with an Association of 17 European Universities. The ESST programme explores the foundations and impact of science and technology by examining the values, language, history, politics, and economics of modern technological and scientific society. Work in this field prepares students to integrate the scientific and technical disciplines with the humanities and social sciences.
