Urban Climate Living Lab

Date: 18 June 2019

Climate change and increased urbanization are the main causes of rising temperatures in the city. In a number of workshops you will find out what are the bottlenecks and how to ensure a pleasant living environment.

Heat is easily trapped by the materials used to build houses, industrial buildings, sidewalks, and parking lots, it’s important to take this into account when designing the city.

Urban Climate Living Lab is an afternoon program which focuses on the heat-resistant city. During this afternoon program, researchers from the University of Applied Sciences of Amsterdam and AMS Institute will talk about their research on this subject. They will tell you about the latest insights into the use of heat maps and the effect of measures and possible guidelines.

In the workshops, you will work on a number of interesting cases and there’s an option to go outside for a Thermal Walk around the Marineterrein Amsterdam. During this real-time measurement experiment, you will look for the coolest and warmest locations, in order to experience the differences in air temperature and real feel.
