Minisymposium Arctic climate variability and change

Date: 21 December 2016
Location: GAIA 1, Droevedaalsesteeg 3, 6708 PB, Wageningen

We would like to invite you to a minisymposium on "Arctic climate variability and change" on the occasion of the defense of the PhD thesis of Eveline vd Linden.

The human influence on climate is most clear in the vulnerable polar regions. Recent changes in the climate of the Arctic are unprecedented. It is therefore imperative to understand the mechanisms causing these changes, learning from past and present climate records and climate model results. At this minisymposium past, present and future changes of Arctic climate will be discussed.

10:00-10:15 Introduction (Prof. Wilco Hazeleger, Wageningen University & NLeSC)

10:15 -10:45 Warming the Arctic with moist intrusions (Prof. Rodrigo Caballero, Stockholm University)

10:45-11:15 Simulation of the Younger Dryas cold event: new insights from coupled model experiments constrained by data assimilation (Prof. Hans Renssen, VU & University College Southeast Norway)

11:15-11:45 The impact of Southern Ocean gateways on the Cenozoic climate evolution (Dr. Anna vd Heydt, Utrecht University)

11:45-12:00 Discussion (Dr. Richard Bintanja, KNMI)
