Dear SENSE PhD students,
You all chose The Netherlands as the place to conduct your PhD and being part of the SENSE network. Even though everyone might have had different motivations for this choice, one thing we can tell you for sure: The Netherlands offer beautiful landscapes and interesting history waiting to be discovered by you!
Let’s discover The Netherlands together in our “Landscape hunting” event series.
We hereby invite you to the first event taking place in the province of Limburg (see attached Flyer). During this event we will visit the Steenkolenmijn (coal mine) in Valkenburg, Limburg, NL, and get a guided tour to learn about the history of mining in The Netherlands (for more info: https://www.steenkolenmijn.nl/en/). After this there will be time for Lunch in the city of Valkenburg. And since it’s Christmas time, we can visit the Christmas market Fluweelengrot, so you can do some shopping for Christmas presents or just enjoy the unique atmosphere (for more info https://www.kasteelvalkenburg.nl/en/activities/christmas-market/).
Thus, we have a rough schedule as follows:
• Meeting in Wageningen for group-transport, otherwise you can arrange travel yourself
• Leaving Wageningen at 9.00
• Arriving in Valkenburg 11.00
• Guided tour in coal mine from 11.15-12.30
• Lunch in Valkenburg city from 12.30-14.00
• Christmas market 14.00-16.00
• Travel back to Wageningen 16.00-18.00
If you are interested in joining, you can register here.
We think these events will be a great networking opportunity and a fun way of getting to know PhDs from different Universities in The Netherlands outside of the formal course environment.
We hope to see you all there,
SENSE PhD Council
