SENSE research clusters: a new opportunity for inspiration and learning!

Early 2009, the SENSE Research School started 14 research clusters. They have been installed to sharpen the focus of the four overarching research themes of SENSE by creating smaller research teams that bring together researchers and PhD students from different SENSE partner institutions.

Research clusters aim to establish a platform/network for SENSE PhD-students and SENSE researchers that work on related topics or themes. Such a platform/network enables information exchange and common activities, such as organizing:

  • PhD meetings/presentations;
  • workshops;
  • expert meetings;
  • Summer Schools / international PhD courses;
  • discussion meetings;
  • literature study meetings;
  • review of draft articles, poster presentations; etc.
The cluster overview is available at:

Upcoming PhD events

Drivers of regime shifts in aquatic systems: case-specific or universal?

Date: September 24, 2009
Location: Forum Building, Droevendaalsesteeg 2 [Building 102], 6708 PB Wageningen
Duration: all day.

The study of regime shifts developed independently in the freshwater and marine realms; with studies of freshwater regime shifts having a resource-based focus while in marine systems, research concentrates on higher trophic levels. Do these distinct approaches reflect fundamental differences in the drivers of the abrupt changes or is it simply a reflection of a parallel development towards one unifiable body of theory?

The announcement poster can be downloaded here.

Registration: email before September 7th, specifying whether you will present a poster or talk (and include any dietary requirements).

Oral presentations: If you want to present a talk, please also send an abstract of no more than 200 words (font size 12). Remember to include the title (font size 14), authors and affiliations (both font size 10), all in Times New Roman font.

Poster presentations: For posters, please send the only title, authors and affiliations in the same format as described above.
