Disaster risk management has traditionally focused mainly on either long-term disaster risk reduction measures or post-disaster emergency response. The former is informed by information on average levels of risk, the latter by the occurrence of an extreme event. In between these two, many short-term actions can be implemented that greatly reduce the impact of potential disasters. These are implemented in the period of time between a warning and the moment of the potential disaster. The research proposal focuses on how
decision-makers can select a portfolio of such disaster risk management investments based on available information about future conditions.
By September we will present an overview of SENSE dissertations on this page, with links to the full texts of the dissertations.
