Behavioural Economic Studies of Flood Insurance Demand
Group: Environmental Economics, Institute for Environmental Studies, VU University Amsterdam.
Promotor: Prof. dr. Willem Jan Wouter Botzen
Co-promotor: Dr J.E. Blasch
The first part of the research will review the literature which performs economic experiments, hypothetical surveys and market data studies on insurance demand, in the context of low-probability/high-impact risk.
I will then conduct economic experiments that examine how flood insurance demand relates to the risk that individuals face and psychological factors, as well as charity hazard.
The third part of the research examines a novel behavioural economic intervention for improving decision making with respect to flood insurance choices, i.e., the setting of default options.
By September we will present an overview of SENSE dissertations on this page, with links to the full texts of the dissertations.
