Abstract:

Implementing sustainable land management (SLM) practices with an index-based crop insurance (IBI) is a win-win opportunity to foster sustainable agriculture in Burundi. Based on a practical case this thesis investigates the drivers of SLM investments and the extent to which an IBI helps smallholder farmers to overcome risks associated to farming.
