All doctoral and postdoctoral researchers dealing with spatial data (also open for UFZ technicians)
*Background required*: basic knowledge of R, some idea of how to use Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

Contents

The course deals with the processing and analysis of spatial data in ecological and environmental research.

In particular, the following topics are covered:

  1. Projections and transformations
  2. Characteristics and structure of vector and raster data
  3. Data processing (subset, mosaic, mask etc.)
  4. Writing own functions for spatial data
  5. Simple data analysis and spatial statistics
  6. Making maps

Didactic aim

Learn how to import, handle and analyse spatial data (vector, raster). Ability to use R as a GIS environment.
