PhD candidate Connecting radar altimetric heights to coastal water outlines from optical remote sensing, University of Twente

Application deadline: 8 April 2021

JOB DESCRIPTION

Within this PhD project you will study how height changes of coastal sea level interact with its observed outlines. The goal is to ultimately quantify the separation of coastline change from sea level rise contributions and geomorphodynamic contributions.

To achieve this, you will co-locate (retracked) radar altimetry data with water outlines from remote sensing making use of a spatial database. Furthermore, auxiliary data from tide gauges, gnss stations and digital elevation models and morphodynamic models will be ingested in this study. The performed research will result in a PhD thesis.

YOUR PROFILE

  • You have a MSc degree in civil engineering, geodesy/geomatics, earth sciences or physical geography
  • You have affinity with sea level rise in the coastal zone and terrestrial hydrology
  • You have programming skills (python is an advantage), and are interested in, geo-informatics ,earth observation, cloud computing and working with spatial databases.
  • You have an open mind towards applying open science principles
  • You have an excellent command of English (above IELTS 7.5 or equivalent), and like to communicate your research to a broader audience.
